Jason James is a Lieutenant with the Bryan Police Department in Texas and serves as the Region VI Coordinator for the Law Enforcement Torch Run® (LETR) Executive Council. He became involved with LETR after volunteering at a Tip-A-Cop event and quickly developed strong connections with Special Olympics athletes and their families. Those relationships have fueled his commitment to the movement and its mission ever since.
Since joining LETR, Jason has served numerous leadership roles, including as a member of the Special Olympics Texas East Region Executive Council and Special Olympics Texas East Region Resource Board. He was selected as a Final Leg runner for the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games in Orlando and co-chaired the 2024 Law Enforcement Torch Run International Conference in San Antonio. Jason has also volunteered as both a coach and Unified Partner.
Jason has served with the Bryan Police Department since 1998, holding leadership positions across patrol, investigations, public information, neighborhood enforcement, professional standards, and administration. He holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Lamar University, a master’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Cincinnati and is a graduate of the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas Leadership Command College.
