Council Positions Being Contested in 2026
Law Enforcement At-Large
One Law Enforcement at-large member each year is elected or re-elected to serve a (3) three year term in one of the (3) three elected Law Enforcement At-Large positions. The elected member shall have full membership and voting privileges as an Executive Council member.
This position is open to any interested Law Enforcement Member who has been an active participant in their home program for a minimum of 3 years prior to the year they run for election. Special Olympics Program Representatives are not eligible for election to a Law Enforcement At-Large position on the Executive Council.

Regional Coordinators
There are fourteen (14) Regional Coordinators, one elected from each Law Enforcement Torch Run region, each of whom must be a Law Enforcement Member. This position is open to any interested Law Enforcement Member who has been an active participant in their home program for at least 3 years before the year they run for election. Regional Coordinators are elected by the Torch Run Directors from the Special Olympics Programs within a Torch Run Region for a three (3) year term. Up to five Regional Coordinators are re-elected each year. Special Olympics Program Representatives are not eligible for election to a Regional Coordinator position on the Executive Council.

Special Olympics At-Large
One Special Olympics at-large member each year shall be elected or re-elected to one of the three (3) Special Olympics at-large positions. Two of the three positions are reserved for Special Olympics program Chief Executive Officers and the third is reserved for a person employed by a Special Olympics program as a Law Enforcement Torch Run Liaison.
The primary roles of an elected Special Olympics at-large member of Council include serve on committees, working groups and similar bodies as requested and directed by the Council Chair; in the case of CEO at-large representatives, act as a point of contact and information sharing between the Council and Special Olympics CEO representative bodies; and provide Council with relevant advice on various issues arising during Council discussions based on their experience.

Special Olympics Athlete Appointee
Special Olympics programs are invited to nominate an athlete to serve for a period of two years on the Council. Nominations will not be accepted from individuals (i.e. athletes or parent/guardian of athletes).
The Special Olympics Athlete Appointee takes part in all Council meetings and is invited to participate in committee work, including the Council Athlete Awards committee. They play a significant public role during the LETR International Conference. Their views are often sought during Council discussions, and they are seen as a sounding board for the views of athletes during Council deliberations.
